In this class you will design and build an end-grain cutting board while gaining essential skills in the woodshop. Hardwood is an ideal material for use in cutting boards because it is gentler on knives and a more sanitary option than plastic (contrary to popular belief). End-grain hardwood cutting boards are a premium cutting surface and common choice for home and professional chefs alike.

We will begin by covering requisite safety skills for operating woodshop power tools. Then you will design and build a unique end-grain cutting board, around 12" x 16" in size. Additionally, we will cover what species of hardwood make good cutting boards, and how to care for and maintain your completed board. Materials included. No experience required.

Due to the complex nature of this project, class size is capped at two. Class will meet for four sessions. You must attend all four sessions at the times listed to complete the project, and refunds are not available if the project is started but not completed.

Cancellation policy: Registrants may cancel their enrollment 48 hours (2 days) before a class begins for a refund or credit. After this deadline, no refund or credit is available. GAAC/The Stew reserves the right to cancel classes due to a minimum enrollment not being met. In that event, participants will be notified and will be able to choose between a refund or credit for a future class. Email info@grinnellarts.org with questions.
