Shibori is the Japanese ancient art of making shapes and patterns on cloth using stitching, tying, folding, clamping, and pole-wrapping. This class will explore many different traditional and contemporary techniques and use indigo for dyeing to produce beautiful designs on cotton fabric. We will also dye one silk scarf or silk fabric using fresh indigo leaves and produce a table runner or dresser scarf.

Fee includes materials prepped by Rebecca: fabric, stitching thread, dye, needles, and detailed handouts. Students will need to wear old clothes and an apron.

Students also need to bring:
-small, sharp pointed scissors (embroidery type works well)
-A 1-2 gallon bucket or wide mouth gallon jar with a tight-fitting lid
-seam ripper
-12" ruler
-6 plastic bags (grocery, trash, gallon Ziploc, etc.)
-1 qt. plastic container (old yogurt or freezer containers work fine)

Rebecca says, "I find the mystery and sculptural nature of tying, stitching, folding, and dyeing cloth intriguing.  It often takes me in directions I didn't plan on going."
